Attempted child abduction in Lancaster County

UPDATE:  MANHEIM TOWNSHIP POLICE HAVE CONCLUDED THAT THE ALLEGED ATTEMPTED ABDUCTION DID NOT HAPPEN. THEIR INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.

An attempted child abduction this morning near a Lancaster County elementary school.  It happened at about 8:25 this morning near Buchanan Elementary School in Lancaster Township.

Manheim Township Police say an eleven year old girl was walking to school on South West Avenue near Prangley Avenue when a man grabbed her and attempted to drag her into a white van. The child was able to break free and run to the school where she alerted school officials who then contacted police.  The girl was unharmed.

The suspect is described as an “older” white or Hispanic man with a long gray beard. He was wearing a green beanie and a green jacket. The vehicle is a white work type van with no markings and a dark or gray roof rack and shiny hubcaps.
