The deadline to file nomination petitions to get on the May election ballot in the Keystone state has now passed. More than 1000 candidates filed their signatures for federal and state level public office by 5:00 Tuesday evening.
Former Harrisburg Mayor, Linda Thompson, walked through the petition filing room with nearly 1700 signatures. She says, “Words can’t express the joy I have.”
It’s the attitude Thompson wants to put forth in Washington D.C. She’s running for the 4th District Congressional seat against Republican Scott Perry.
Thompson says, “I’m used to walking the streets, knocking on doors, staying in the public’s eyes. This is who Linda Thompson is.”
Thompson said her experience as Mayor of Harrisburg helped her collect more than the required amount of signatures needed to get on the May primary election ballot. The commissioner for the State Bureau of Elections, Jonathan Marks, says collecting signatures shows the candidates desire to work hard.
Marks says, “What the candidates have done over the last three weeks is much more important than what goes on here today, they’re out, have their circulators on the streets and the challenges with collecting signatures.”
Thompson adds, “Goes to show you that when you get in office and you’re honest and ethical, you get the job done that people will stick behind you.”
