NYC Building Explosion: Con Edison received a call about possible gas leak

Steve Kastenbaum and Eden Pontz, (CNN) — Shortly before Wednesday morning’s blast at a building at in Manhattan, New York utility Con Edison received a call about a possible gas leak from an apartment building next door, a Con Edison official told CNN. A utility truck was dispatched but the explosion happened before it arrived, the official said.

People living in the area of Wednesday morning’s building blast and collapse in Manhattan have told investigators that they could smell gas before the explosion, law enforcement sources told CNN’s Shimon Prokupecz.
