SPRING TO WINTER IN A DAY: Don’t get used to this mild air yet, because we’re in for a rude awakening tonight. A potent, growing, complex winter storm will move through today, bringing a change of seasons with it. So let’s get you started.
Expect mostly cloudy skies and mild weather for the morning. Temperatures roll out of the 40s into the 50s. By afternoon, we briefly make a run at the low 60s. This comes with showers for late morning and eventually a line of potent showers and thunderstorms. The line may produce some severe gusty, damaging winds as it passes this evening. The hail and tornado threat is low, but not completely zero.
As the rain shifts east, the low pressure system treks east as well. This will allow the door to cold air to be kicked off the hinges by tonight. We’re talking strong northwesterly winds at 25-35mph with higher gusts rocking in some brutally cold air overnight. Temps will fall fast through the 50s, 40s, 30s, and into the 20s. That’s right, a 40° temperature drop with winds making it feel more like a 50-60° temperature drop by daybreak Thursday with wind chills in the teens and single digits.
LATE WEEK: Thursday will be a brutally cold and blustery day with gusty winds relaxing by night. We’re talking highs only in the upper 20s with single digit and teen chills under sunny skies. Temps fall as winds drop overnight. We’re in the upper teens for lows. By Friday, the warmer air returns. We make it back to the middle to upper 40s with sunshine.
WEEKEND: Enjoy the mild air through Saturday as we run toward the middle 50s. It’s mostly cloudy with a few stray showers possible. Sunday, cooler air beings its push back into the state. We’re in the low 40s for highs with more sun again.
NEXT WEEK: Colder air continues to win the battle. Back to the 30s we go for the start of the work week. More to come.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
