A disabled Dauphin County girl is competing in a national contest for a much needed adaptive bicycle.
Langston Stumpf was born a healthy child. Her mother Erica says when Langston was only two days old she went into cardiac arrest. As a result she suffered a brain injury. She now lives with cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
She grew out of her walker and isn’t eligible for a new one under her insurance. Leaving her with no adaptive equipment to allow her to move on her own. Erica hopes to give Langston back her mobility. She’s entered her in the “ Great Bike Giveaway” contest to win an adaptive bike. Langston spends her day in a wheelchair and her mother says this bike would get her moving, and give her a chance to feel included with other children her age.
“It’s really hard for her to thrive and develop without being able to move around and with having an adaptive bicycle it’d be something we do at home and outside she could interact with other kids her age as well,” says Stumpf
Erica says Langston doesn’t let her disabilities get her down, and that this bike would greatly improve her quality of life.
“ My dream is for her to be included. I want her to feel like she’s part of the world and like she’s important and like everybody else. Obviously she’s physically not but I want her to know she can do whatever she wants to do,” says Stumpf
