Fire investigators said a man smoking a cigarette in bed is what caused a duplex fire in West York on Tuesday morning.  It happened around 9:38 a.m. along the 1800 block of Monroe Street. Fire officials say the man awoke on the floor of the second floor bedroom to find his mattress fully engulfed in flames.

The man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, police said.

Two adults and a child are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The neighboring home at 1811 Monroe Street sustained smoke damage in the attic area.
