In front of the biggest regular season crowd in PNC Park history, Neil Walker makes history.  The Pirates 2nd baseman hits the 1st opening day walk-off home run for the Pirates since 1965.

Neil Walker, Pirates 2nd Baseman.

“This one was pretty special, this was a special day.  This was a really special day for this team, this organization, we have come a long way.  The last 20 years have been a tough thing and to be where we are now over the last couple years is pretty amazing.”

Francisco Liriano, Pirates Pitcher

“Its a great feeling you know, especially when we win the game so thats the most important thing, win the game.  Neil got a good pitch to hit and he hit it the way he wanted to so its a great thing to see.”

Andrew McCutchen, Pirates Centerfielder

“You always try to treat every game like its opening day, go out there and give it your all but as much as you try, its more than likely not going to happen.  Its good that we got the 1st game out of the way, we got the win, now we can show up in a couple days and now be ready to go at it again.”

The Pirates won the game, 1-0 in 10 innings after Walker hit the walk-off home run.  They have Tuesday off and will play the Cubs again on Wednesday at PNC Park.
