A suspected drug dealer from Philadelphia is charged in a weekend arrest in Lancaster City. City police responded at about 8:11 pm Saturday to call of a suspicious vehicle in the rear parking lot of Santander Bank at 100 East King Street. The anonymous caller provided information that guns and drugs were being loaded into a white BMW. The lot is posted against trespass and the bank was closed at the time.

The first officer on the scene spoke to the sole occupant of the vehicle, Waldemar Mercado-Cruz, 33, of Philadelphia.  Mercado-Cruz consented to having the car searched for contraband.

With the assistance of a police K9, a package was located taped to the firewall of the engine compartment. The package was determined to contain 103 gram of suspected heroin with an estimated street value of $27,000.

Mercado-Cruz was taken into custody on charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver and Trespass by Motor Vehicle. Following arraignment he was sent to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.
