ESPN.com reported the contract is for three years. Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall appeared to confirm the deal, tweeting “@DeseanJackson10 congrats lil bro welcome to Redskins Nation.”
NBC Washington also reported the agreement after earlier indicating that the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers were competing with Washington for Jackson.
CSN Washington reported that Jackson left Redskins Park after three hours of meetings. Jackson arrived in northern Virginia on Monday night and dined with members of the Redskins coaching staff, including head coach Jay Gruden.
ESPN.com reported that Jackson later went to a club with Hall and Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon. Both players publicly stated their desire for Jackson to join the Redskins, as did quarterback Robert Griffin III.
“Very exciting player. Determined to show he is the best and hungry to win. My kinda guy,” Griffin told ESPN.
Jackson was released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday. The Redskins were the first team to schedule a visit. No other visits were announced.
The Eagles released Jackson just two years after he signed a five-year contract extension. The three-time Pro Bowler was due to make $10.5 million in 2014 and was owed $30.5 million over the remainder of his contract, but none of that money was guaranteed.
Jackson had his best season in 2013 with 82 catches for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns. He has 356 career receptions, averaging 17.2 yards per catch, and has caught 32 touchdown passes. He also has three rushing touchdowns and four more on punt returns.
The Oakland Raiders, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers also showed some level of interest in Jackson, 27.
