An 89 cent mistake costs one man a $525 fine
A South Carolina man is out of a job after what he says was a simple mistake escalated. According to a hospital spokesperson, signs are posted in the cafeteria of the VA hospital that soda refills aren’t free.
Christopher Lewis says he never noticed the signs and admits he had refilled his drink without paying other occasions.
Lewis says after he re-filled his cup, a man who identified himself as the chief of police stopped him.
Lewis says he was given a 525 dollar ticket for shoplifting and told not to return to the property. The hospital now says it is considering only issuing Lewis a warning.
