Fire investigators believe it was an act of arson that caused a house fire in York City on Friday night. Flames broke out around 8:30 p.m. along the first block of South Hartley Street.

A dog died in the fire, but five people managed to escape.

York Fire Chief David Michaels says the fire was contained to the third floor of the building. Firefighters had to throw a mattress and other items out of a window because the fire had spread throughout the apartment.

The fire caused $15,000 worth of damage.

The American Red Cross is assisting the residents.
