A Montgomery County lawyer is facing charges after being accused of raping and sexually assaulting a  paralegal who worked at his law firm, according to Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane.

According to a news release,  Robert Kerns, 66, of  Montgomery County, held a celebratory gathering at a Blue Bell restaurant on Oct. 25, 2013 and offered to drive the victim to the King of Prussia Mall because she had been drinking. The victim stated that she was capable of walking on her own, but did not want to risk driving and therefore accepted Kerns’ offer.

The charges state that on Oct. 25, 2013 Kerns first drove the victim to the King of Prussia Mall where he engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent or knowledge. The assault allegedly continued at the victim’s home where Kerns allegedly continued to engage in sexual acts without the victim’s consent or knowledge.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim woke up on Oct. 26, 2013 in a panic, finding dried vomit on her clothes and finding that she was not wearing any pants or underwear. The victim allegedly found bruises and fingermarks on the inside of her left thigh, scratch marks on her left thigh, scratches and marks on her right thigh, vaginal soreness and pain in her spine between the shoulder blades.

Kerns is charged with three counts of indecent assault, two counts of aggravated indecent assault, one count of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of simple assault.

The case will be prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Daniel Dye of the Office of Attorney General’s Criminal Prosecutions Section.
