People across the country cleaned out their medicine cabinets on Saturday as part of the National Prescription Drug Take-Back day.  Folks in Dauphin County brought their unwanted, unused, and expired pills to the Hershey Public Library in Derry Township and handed them over to the Derry Township Police Department.  This event helps the Drug Enforcement Administration prevent drug abuse and other drug-related health hazards.

Rebecca Kessler, Patrolwoman with the Derry Township PD says, “So we can get the medications out of the medicine cabinets so that it reduces the temptations to those that are and could be addicts and also to keep it out of landfills and out of our water.”

This is the eighth drug take-back event in the past three years for the DEA.  So far more than three million pounds of drugs have been collected nationwide.
