Supporting children and adults with autism was the goal of Saturday’s Edge of Autism Walk in Lancaster.
The one-mile walk was followed by a festival at Buchanan Park near the campus of Franklin & Marshall College.
In Pennsylvania, it’s estimated about one in 75-children are diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum.
Making them feel included in community events and with other youngsters and adults goes a long way in bringing out their talents and personalities.
Sugey Cruz-Everets, an event organizer says, “They’re really happy, they love to actually be included and it’s just looking for ways they actually feel comfortable being included.”
Important facts about Autism and inclusion were posted all along with walking route through the park.
Those who took part raised more than $40,000 for Autism Awareness; this was the 7th year for the event.
