Governor Tom Corbett says he will fight for the Pennsylvania National Guard.
The Governor briefly spoke at Saturday’s session of the Guard’s weekend-long State Annual Conference, held at the Crown Plaza in Harrisburg.
The 30th annual event brings members together to hear from guest speakers and learn about professional development opportunities.
One thing on the minds of many in attendance is proposed cuts to the military that could drastically impact the Guard.
Major General Wesley Craig, Adj. General of the Pennsylvania National Guard says, “They’re proposing a reduction of more than 10-percent in the Army Guard, so we would lose 1400 soldiers out of our 15,000 assigned, lose all the Apache Aircraft we fly out of the 104th Army Reconnaissance Battalion and also lose a good deal of our strength of the 55th Armored Brigade headquartered in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, that’s a big concern of ours.”
Gov. Corbett says, “We’re there to support them, we’re there to fight on their behalf down in Washington to our congressional delegation and through our conversation as Governors.”
Governor Corbett says he will take the fight to keep our guard intact all the way to the Pentagon.
The State Annual Conference wraps up on Sunday.
