Dauphin County Commissioners Jeff Haste, Mike Pries and George P. Hartwick, III encourage county residents, particularly those near flood-prone areas, to closely monitor conditions and be prepared for flash flooding over the next two days. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for central Pennsylvania from April 29 through May 1.
“Over the next 48 hours, please be prepared for flash flooding along small streams and creeks,” said Mike Pries, who has oversight of the county’s Emergency Management Agency . “We’re closely monitoring conditions and are ready to respond and provide assistance to municipalities in need.”
“A few inches of rain will likely produce flash flooding along low-lying areas and on roadways,” said Jeff Haste. “For your safety, do not attempt to drive through flooded roads or areas that are blocked off. Take an alternate route.”
“Anyone living along the Swatara Creek and other small tributaries should remain vigilant for flash flooding over the next two days and move to higher ground if flooding develops,” said George Hartwick. “Stay tuned to local television and radio stations for alerts and instructions.”
The commissioners also remind residents to call 9-1-1 only in an emergency.
