Early April, FOX43 reported a ring worm outbreak at the York County SPCA. Staff members were forced to euthanize more than two dozen cats because they didn’t have enough space to keep them.
90 cats were quarantined as a safety precaution. And soon, they’ll be up for adoption.
This weekend, 40 cats will be ready for a forever home at an adoption event.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the SPCA on Susquehanna Trail North. It’s an annual event, but organizers say this year, timing’s perfect.
Executive Director, Melissa Smith says, “We’re just really happy to get our cats here available and back out in the community and back to business as usual. And certainly as we’re coming up on a busy time of year with feline intake.
Smith says it’s crucial you spay and neuter your cats to help with the overpopulation of stray animals.
As for the ring worm outbreak, SPCA Staff has extensively cleaned the facility and they’ve changed the protocol for intake. However, ring worm can be a reoccur.
