Newberry Township man blames his heroin addiction for vehicle break-in

A York County man blames his heroin addiction for a vehicle break-in in Cumberland County. West Shore Regional Police identified Matthew Daniel Churchey, 22, of Newberry Township, as a suspect in the vehicle break-in that happened in the 200 block of Walton Street in Lemoyne Borough. Two semi-automatic handguns were stolen.

Police also say that Churchey returned to the vehicle for a second time and causing damage. Churchey was arrested on Thursday and admitted to the vehicle break-in. He said that he traded the guns to support his heroin addiction.

Charges against Churchey include Theft by Unlawful Taking, Criminal Mischief, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a syringe and a glass bowl.

Following arraignment Churchey was sent to Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
