One person is dead and five others injured after a three-vehicle crash along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Cumberland County, according to state police reports. It happened just before 11 p.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes of the turnpike in Upper Mifflin Township near mile post 210.

State troopers say Wanda Gass, of Atco, New Jersey, was driving very slowly or was stopped all together in the right hand lane. A vehicle driven by Joshua McAllister, of Pittsburgh,  tried to swerve around Gass but clipped the rear of her vehicle.  The impact of the crash sent McAllister’s vehicle careening into the left hand lane and into the center concrete barrier.  A third vehicle driven by Kitae Park, of South Korea, collided with the rear end of Gass’ vehicle.

The right rear passenger of Gass’ vehicle was ejected and thrown into the westbound lane. State police say that person died.

Gass and her right front passenger, Alicia Gass, of Atco, NJ, were taken to Carlisle Regional Medical Center with severe injuries. McAllister suffered moderate injuries. Kitae Park and her passenger, Wooyoung Choi, of South Korea, suffered minor injuries.

No word yet on the identity of the person killed.

Both east and westbound lanes of the Pa. Turnpike were closed for 7 hours as police investigated.

The investigation is ongoing.
