East Lampeter Township police are investigating a rash of car thefts in the Leola area. The latest incident occurred early Tuesday along the first block of Holly Drive. This is the seventh stolen vehicle in the Leola area in the past nine days, according to police reports.

Officers on patrol observed a blue 2008 Buick Enclave driving at a high rate of speed around 1 a.m. along the 2000 block of New Holland Pike. The vehicle turned off of New Holland Pike and then headed east on Hunsecker Road.  Police located the vehicle abandoned in the 1600 block of Hunsecker Road.

The driver of the vehicle was not located and had fled the scene. Low and behold–the vehicle was reported stolen from the owner’s home late Monday night.

Police say the vehicle had been parked unlocked with the ignition key inside.

Authorities are urging residents to lock their vehicles and try to avoid keeping valuables in their vehicles, especially in plain view.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 717-291-4676
