A Carlisle woman faces federal charges after officials say she is involved in social security fraud.

Susan Stock, 71, was charged Thursday with theft of more than $500,000 in Social Security Administration Benefits (SSA) paid to Stock’s mother over the past 30 years.

Authorities said this resulted after an SSA inspector  tried to arrange an interview with Stock’s mother who had been receiving SSA benefits since at least April 1983. The SSA checks were deposited over that 30 year period to a bank account which Susan Stock controlled.

It was discovered that Stock’s mother had died in 1983 and Stock never notified SSA of her mother’s death and continued to receive and spend her deceased mother’s SSA benefits.

Stock signed a plea agreement, which was also filed Thursday, pleading  guilty to one-count information that charges her with theft of government funds.

She faces up to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000. Stock also agreed to pay restitution to the Social Security Administration in the amount of $523,683.20

This investigation was conducted by the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney William A. Behe.
