Penryn Fire Chief Shannon Martin said “lightning is a strange animal. Very hard to control. That’s exactly what struck a huge oak tree in front of a house in the 200 block of Elm Road in Penn Township. The branches of the tree hung over the roof, which caused the fire to spread quickly.

Chief Martin said the strike was one of the most damaging he’s ever seen. “It can always be worse, luckily nobody got hurt, no loss of life. We can always fix a property” said Martin. Especially when that property belongs to a brother. “The home owner is one of our members of the fire company. Today we’re helping one of our own” said Martin.

The home owner is also Amish and didn’t want to be on camera or make a statement. “If he needs a hand he knows all he has to do is give us a call and we’ll gladly come over and help him out” said Martin.
