This video will upset you: teacher grabs kindergarten student by the face

(CNN) – An Ohio teacher is caught on camera grabbing a student in an apparent fit of anger. The student’s parents are enraged.

Anthony and Autumn Nelson are still stunned by what happened to their 6-year-old son Ian last Wednesday. In a video they provided to us, the Riverdale School kindergartner is walking down the hallway to go to the bathroom.

The surveillance camera then shows his teacher, Barb Williams, confront him as he steps out of the bathroom. The teacher grabs Ian and pins him up against the wall, then grabs him by the face. It doesn’t end there. She picks him up by his shirt and his head flops back.

The boys father, Anthony Nelson, told CNN “we thought it was just a little incident that happened, and that’s what the school made it out to sound like. And then all of a sudden we get this video today and this is just outrageous.”

The Nelsons say Ian had a bruise to the back of his head. A letter Tuesday from Riverdale Superintendent Eric Hoffman informed Barb Williams that she is suspended for ten days without pay.

In his words: “your repeated use of physical force was completely unwarranted and unprofessional.”

The Nelsons want her terminated. They plan to take the video to the Hancock County Sheriff’s office to pursue criminal charges.

Ian has been moved to a different kindergarten class here at the school and seems to be happier, but his parents worry this incident will have a long-term impact on him.

“He’s scared of her. Even going to the school next year or the year after, he will still have to see her if she is present in the building. That’s probably going to scare him.” Said his mother, Autumn Nelson.

Attempts to reach the superintendent by email have not been successful. His letter to the teacher warned Williams that she’ll be fired if there is any future misconduct.

The woman is a bully. She needs to be terminated. They should also charge her with assault and child abuse. She is one sick puppy!

10 Days are you joking???? This child will have to emotionally deal with this much, much longer – so why does the criminal get off with such a light sentence??? Not to mention, now Ian has only ten days to go to school and feel safe…just because this was caught on tape, doesn't mean it's the only incident or maybe just the first of many…glad to see this school is will to take that chance with other people's children!!! If my children were going to this school and she is not fired, they would be moved – I wouldn't care of the rules of where they reside in relation to their school – fire her!!! He's a child for crying-out-loud!!! I'd love to hear the results of the court case; hope this story is updated in the future!!!

So where do we sign the petition to have this animal removed from her position teaching children? This is just sick. There is no need for a teacher to add to the bullying epidemic at schools these days. What kind of role model is that for such young impressionable children? The school is just being plain ignorant towards the issue of bullying if they allow themselves to continue employing her!!! My heart goes out to this kid. He doesn't deserve to have the fear of being around her hinder his focus on his education.

How horrible that something like this has happened! Teacher's used to be able to do almost anyting to a child, but I thought those days were over! This teacher needs to be fired and the taxpayers in the district need to insist upon it! A suspension is not enough and you can be sure that this is typical behavior of this teacher, not just a one time incident. She needs to be terminated and should lose her nice heafty retirement package as well.
