In Dauphin County, an autopsy found a combination of drugs in the system of the York County man who drowned in the Swatara Creek last March.

The coroner ruled 21-year-old Maxwell Duesterhoeft’s death a fresh water drowning due to drug toxicity. Tests showed that bath salts, DMAA–an unregulated dietary supplement, marijuana, and alcohol were all in his system at the time of his death.

“This is a combination of factors that created disaster and you can`t say which one of those was higher than the other because I can go with just the DMAA and say that he was in a toxic range there,” said Dauphin County Coroner  Graham Hetrick.

Duesterhoeft went missing for nearly a week after attending a friend’s party. Witnesses reported seeing him walking towards the edge of the creek. Crews recovered his body on March 28-th about a mile from where friends reported him missing in East Hanover Township.
