Military men and women who’ve lost their lives in the line of duty, were honored Saturday in Cumberland County.
A ceremony took place in a grassy, 17-acre field in Hampden Township. It’s the likely site of a new township park and veterans memorial.
The land, near the Hampden Town Center is being donated by GIANT Food Stores for use as a park and tribute to our service men and women.
Hampden Township Board of Commissioners President Al Bienstock says,”Our veterans memorial will be a more permanent and a daily honoring of our troops, not only those who passed away but those who served in the past as well, as those serving currently.”
A Memorial Day ceremony is held every year in Hampden Township, but usually at the fire station.
The park is not even in the planning stages yet; the land donation still needs to be approved by Township Commissioners who plan to discuss it at their meeting this Thursday.
