Virginia man arrested for attempted rape of a child in Lancaster

Manheim Township Police arrested and charged a 30-year-old Virginia man after they found him inside a hotel room with a 12-year-old girl.

Nelson E. Hercules Jr. ,30, of Caxton Court, Virginia Beach, is being charged with felony charges including;  attempted rape of a child, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault, interference with the custody of a minor, kidnapping a minor, corruption of a minor and crime use of a communication facility.

Officers were called to the 400 block of Candlewyck Road in Lancaster on Friday just before 4:00 p.m. for a report of a mother that saw her 12-year-old daughter getting into a car and then leaving the area. The mother told police the vehicle was driven by a male that she did not know.

Police immediately put out a description of the female, the vehicle and the suspect. Within a short period of time, police were able to locate the vehicle at a hotel along the Harrisburg Pike in Manheim Township.

The suspect was a registered guest at the hotel. Officers found both the suspect and the female inside one of the rooms.

The female was not injured.

Hercules admitted to police that he had met the girl online and had been communicating with her through chat rooms and text messages. He also admitted that he knew the girl was 12-years-old and that he came to Lancaster to have sexual contact with her.

Hercules was arraigned and is currently in Lancaster County Prison with a $250,000 bail.
