In York, hundreds of people paid tribute to our troops by running, walking, and biking through the city.

People strapped on their running shoes and bike helmets early Monday morning and hit the pavement for the York Gold Star Memorial 5k Run and the Tour the Memorials 9 mile run, ride, and walk.

Participants began the trek at Memorial Park and then passed by every war memorial in the city along the race route.

Proceeds from the run will go to maintain a brand-new memorial in York City.

Jeff Hines, race director says, “The benefit for the run is to maintain our Gold Star garden which is behind me which was just built, it’s a beautiful garden that honors the supreme sacrifice of those from York and also Pennsylvania and frankly all over the country on the war on terrorism.”

Prizes were awarded to the top three male and female finishers who participated in the 5k.
