FAIRVIEW TOWNSHIP–A Mechanicsburg man was charged with theft after being accused of defrauding a York County recycling business out of $2,500, police said.

According to police reports, Scott M. Hammaker, 28, altered scrapping receipts to steal money from AAI Recycling on Pinetown Road in Lewisberry.

Investigators said on several occasions Hammaker altered scrapping receipts to indicate he was recycling much more material than he actually turned in.

Hammaker was charged on May 1 and released on $2,000 unsecured bail, according to court records. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 18.
