A York County surgical center sent letters to some patients warning them that they may be at risk of infection. A press release from White Rose Surgical Associates states they were alerted by the Pennsylvania Department of Health that modifications or changes were needed in two specific areas of infection control to comply with recognized guidelines.

White Rose Surgical says they immediately took steps to comply with the specific infection control protocols identified. White Rose Surgical says they are cooperating with the Department of Health.

As a precautionary measure, White Rose Surgical says letters were sent out to patients who were deemed potentially at risk. According to the release, less than 3% of all their patients will receive letters.  The letters provide instructions on how to proceed to local testing laboratories at no cost to the patient or their insurer. In addition, a patient information line has been established so that White Rose Surgical patients who receive a letter can ask additional questions.  Patients can also schedule a time to speak to their White Rose physician through the information center.

“Patient safety and quality of care are the top priorities of the physicians and staff at White Rose Surgical. On behalf of my colleagues and me, we offer our sincerest apologies to the patients who have received these letters.  We would never knowingly put our patients at risk,” said Dr. Thomas Scott, White Rose Surgical Associates president.

White Rose Surgical Associates says they provide a full range of general surgical services, including colorectal surgery, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, endoscopy, and cancer screening and surgery. They have been practicing for more than 25 years.
