Ronald McGruder’s body lay on the sidewalk after he was fatally shot on the 1100-block of Hanover Street, at the corner of Cameron Street in Harrisburg. It happened around 2 a.m. Friday morning.
Police say they have no motive for the crime. Court records show McGruder was facing charges for drug possession and theft.
“I didn’t grow up in a good neighborhood, either, you know but stuff like this, it’s sad, it’s not right,” says neighbor Donnie Hunsicker, who heard the shots.
As we spoke to neighbors, we met the family of Hauson Baltimore-Greene Jr., the first homicide victim in Harrisburg this year, who was shot to death January 18th. He was 18 and he would be graduating from high school next month. His killer has not been caught.
“First homicide, and they have not found the person who did it, and I’m angry,” says Baltimore-Greene’s grandmother, Viola Rooks.
She thinks the chances are slim for police catching the killers.
“I don’t even think they’re out looking for the person that shot my grandson,” says Rooks.
Police are asking for the public’s help. They say in McGruder’s case, a full-sized sedan was seen leaving the scene and almost crashed into a car on Cameron Street. They’re hoping potential witnesses will come forward.
