2013 York County Senior Games Kick Off

There is still time to register for the 13th annual York County Senior Games being held June 22 to June 28 at various locations throughout York County.

The goal of the York County Senior Games is to promote healthy lifestyles and fitness for York County men and women through competitive activities.  Any York County resident 50 years of age or older as of December 31, 2014 may participate.

There are 48 different events being offered so there is sure to be an event for everyone. Join other participants in annual favorites like bowling (singles and doubles), mini golf, bocce, horseshoes, throws, Wii bowling and shuffleboard. Sign up to compete in the triathlon if you are looking for a special challenge.

Registrations should be received as early as possible because of limited openings in some events.  A $15 registration fee will enable a person to participate in an unlimited number of events. There are additional fees, payable at the event site, for some events.

In many events, participants will be divided into men’s and women’s divisions.  Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded within each age group.

Registration booklets are available by contacting the York County Area Agency on Aging at (717) 771-9001 or 1-800-632-9073.  Registration booklets and forms are also available at www.ycaaa.org on the ‘Forms and Documents’ page.

The Opening Ceremony and Closing Celebration for the games will be free and open to the public.  The Opening Ceremony will be held on Monday, June 23 at 8:30 a.m. at Central York High School Soccer Stadium, 601 Mundis Mill Road in Springettsbury Township.

All participants and their families are encouraged to attend the ceremony, which will feature the Parade of Athletes and Banners, Lighting of the Torch and door prizes.

The Closing Celebration will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 at the Central York High School Cafeteria. This event will celebrate the week of activities, recognize medal winners (including the triathlon and banner contest winners) and be a special time of sharing.

Participants and their families are invited to enjoy some ice cream and music.  Picture memories will be shared during this special occasion.

The Senior Games are organized by the York County Area Agency on Aging (YCAAA) in conjunction with the Senior Games Planning Committee, which is made up of community and business volunteers.  The returning Platinum sponsor for the Senior Games is ManorCare Health Services.
