Family and friends of Domonique Boyer gathered in Lancaster Thursday to remember the 27-year-old who was shot and killed during a fight early Saturday morning.

Many of them are reliving the trauma of losing Boyer’s cousin, Brandon Seals, in a shooting almost three years ago.

Seals’ parents urged young people in the community to turn away from drugs and gun violence.

“It’s so difficult out here with the peer pressure, so much to do,” said Dorthea Alexander, who is Brandon’s mother and Domonique’s aunt. “Everyday do something positive and good for yourself. Stop doing the drugs. Stop picking up the guns.”

Police say Boyer was shot around 2 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of East Chestnut and North Cherry streets. He was found in a nearby parking lot, which is where Thursday’s vigil took place. He later died at Lancaster General Hospital.

Police arrested Christopher Johnson, of Columbia, and charged him with criminal homicide in Boyer’s death. To this day, no one has been charged in connection with the death of Brandon Seals.

Boyer is survived by his parents, fiancée, siblings and young daughter, according to his obituary. His funeral is Tuesday at noon at Bright Side Baptist Church.
