YouTube user 8titlesdontlie posted a video on June 1 with the explanation:

“Growing up my dad always dreamed of owning a 57 chevy bel-air. He grew up poor in a family of 7 children. He never thought he would be able to own his dream vehicle but would talk about it all the time.

When I was 8 years old I promised him that on his 57th birthday I would buy him a 57 bel-air. I never forgot and was able to fulfill my promise.”

The video was posted to reddit.com earlier today and in a few hours flew to the front page with over a thousand comments like this one from user MikeRowPhone: “It’s a heartwarming example of how the gulf between grown man and little kid is often quite small. And the easier it is for us to jump the better we are for it.”

According to reddit user Belairboy’s comments, the man in the video is not his biological father, but raised him after his father left him and his mother.

He explains, that he actually had the car for two years hiding it in his garage and had shown pictures of it to his father to gauge his interest. He wrote, “He would get so excited and talk about owning something like that but that he ‘knew he never would be able to’.”

Reddit user Belairboy also posted a picture album of the car: Imgur.com
