Two people are killed, three more injured after cell phone dropped in toilet

XINXIANG CITY, China  — Two people were killed and three more injured after a woman dropped her cellphone into a sewage pit in China.

The tragedy unfolded after a woman dropped her new phone into an “open pit” toilet, according to the South China Morning Post.

The woman’s husband attempted to retrieve the phone — but could not breath and quickly fell unconscious. His mother then jumped in to rescue him, but she also fainted.

The woman who dropped the phone, her father-in-law and two neighbors also jumped in; they too lost consciousness.

All six people were rescued after neighbors lowered a rope into the pit.

The woman’s husband and mother-in-law both died at the hospital. Two others were also hospitalized.

Witnesses say the victims were in the pit, which was knee deep waste, for no more than five minutes.

Honestly, I'd expect this in America before anywhere else. But not to worry, my optimism gives me reassurance that this will or has already happened in the good 'ole USA.

Methane gas kills. Maybe warning signs should be posted at toilets like these. Maybe then people would know.

The moment it falls in is the moment to give it up. No 3-second rule for this.
