Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a police-involved accident that sent a Harrisburg police officer and a civilian to the hospital with injuries.

The crash happened Tuesday around 2:28 a.m. along the first block of  South 13th Street near Chestnut Street.  It involved a civilian vehicle and a marked squad car. Investigators said the police officer was responding to an call in Allison Hill when the two vehicles collided.

Both the officer and the man driving the other vehicle were taken to a local hospital where they are being treated for their injuries.  The police officer has since been released, according to police reports.

No word yet on the identity of the police officer or the other driver. The condition of the injured driver wasn’t immediately known, but it was reported that he is awake and alert.

Both the police squad car and the civilian vehicle were damaged and had to be towed from the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
