Tracy Lawrence-Felton is trying to help other families prevent what happened to hers.

Her son, Aaron, died four years ago of a heroin overdose at age 20 in Hanover, York County. She remembers not believing heroin could take her son’s life and the moment that changed with a knock at her door at 5:51 a.m.

“It’ll never happen to me. It won’t affect me that way. But when it did, I just could do nothing but scream,” said Lawrence-Felton.

She’s organizing a rally Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the square in Hanover to raise awareness of heroin. Click on the video player above to see why she believes state laws need to change to combat the heroin epidemic. Officials in counties throughout Central Pennsylvania have reported an increase in heroin overdose deaths, as the drug is a cheaper alternative to others. Experts say addicts often begin taking prescription pills before to turning to heroin.

There will be another rally in York at the Continental Square from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on June 28.
