Giving victims of crime a voice and support, that’s what advocates in Dauphin County did with a special event on Saturday. The Victim Witness Assistance Program hosted its Third Annual 5K Run and Walk on City Island on Saturday morning.

Nearly 250 people showed up and were ready to show their support. The Victim Witness program helps victims through things like the court process and counseling and its mission is to reduce the trauma of crime by empowering victims.

“It takes a lot of people to come together and realize that people need help and to talk about it. You shouldn’t suffer in silence. That’s the hardest part, realizing that you can speak about and once that’s done, you can only go up and grow and be positive,” says Erica Honeycutt, Former Victim Witness Assistance Program Client.

All money raised at the run and walk event goes to help fund the program.
