Firefighters continue to battle the blaze at a scrap metal yard fire in Harrisburg. The fire broke out around 3 a.m. at Consolidated Scrap Resources located along the 1600 block of Cameron Street.
The fire at the scrap yard has been burning for nine hours. Both state and county officials are monitoring the air quality.
Initial reports indicate that air quality levels are within acceptable limits, but the fire department is recommending that the elderly and children stay away from the smoke and remain indoors, said Joyce Davis, spokeswoman for Mayor Eric Papenfuse.
The Acting Harrisburg Fire Chief is holding a news conference at noon. FOX43 News will be at the news conference and will continue to post updated information.
