On July 27th, WGN America will unveil its next original television series. The drama, “Manhattan” is set in 1943 in Los Alamos, New Mexico, where scientists from across the country have been brought in to build the first atomic bomb.

The show is not just about the race to create the weapon; it chronicles the scientists and their families living in a secret world. No one outside of Los Alamos knows the town exists; it’s a top secret mission. The scientists, putting their blood, sweat and tears into the project, can’t even tell their spouses what they are trying to develop. Lies and rumors swirl and marriages are tested as members of two very different teams calculate and test their nuclear ideas.

FOX43’s Jaime Garland was invited to a special screening of “Manhattan” this weekend. She traveled to New Mexico to watch the first two episodes. She interviewed the main cast, including John Benjamin Hickey as “Frank Winter,” Daniel Stern as “Glen Babbit,” and Rachel Brosnahan as “Abby Isaacs.”

Jaime also conducted a one-on-one interview with the show’s Creator, Writer and Executive Producer, Sam Shaw, whose career includes writing for Showtime’s critical hit “Masters of Sex.” Emmy Award winning Director and Executive Producer, Thomas Schlamme, who worked on projects like “The West Wing” and “Parenthood,” also spoke with Jaime.

In the coming weeks, Jaime will share her experience here on the web and on FOX43 newscasts. She will give you a behind the scenes look at the set and get the cast members’ perspective of the show. The cast and creative team are thrilled to be working on this project. They promise a gritty drama filled with intrigue and suspense that will entertain you like no other show on TV.

Take a look at “Manhattan’s” trailer and stay tuned for an exciting trip back in time and a race against the clock.

“Manhattan” premieres on WGN America, July 27th at 9 p.m./8 p.m. central. It is produced by Tribune Studios, Lionsgate Television and Skydance Television.
