A group of people on a fishing trip had a close encounter with what looks to be  a great white shark.

Steve Clark, an Avalon retiree, was fishing with friends on his boat off the coast of the South Jersey shore.

“It swam down the length of the boat and I happened to see it first and obviously I was a little bit stunned. I didn’t say anything to anybody. I was looking at it trying to process the information because it was quite a big fish.” Said Clark.

The five people on board the boat actually went out fishing for mako sharks. And to attract those sharks they hung a chum bucket -which the shark took with it.

The shark hung out near the boat for about twenty minutes -enough time for Clark to guess it weighed around one ton and was about sixteen feet long.
