Susquehanna Township police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man and woman who they say are part of a scam involving pre-paid gift cards.
Police released surveillance photos of the pair on Wednesday taken from the Unimart on North Front Street on June 28.
Investigators said the man will purchase a gift card and then return it. Meanwhile, the woman is selecting the same pre-paid card and will discretely pass off the inactivated card to the man–who then returns it to the clerk. The man and women leave the store with the activated card and a full refund while the store is left with an inactivated card.
The latest incident happened Saturday at the Unimart around 4:30 p.m. The man walked in and bough a $100 pre-paid Visa card, police said. The woman then entered the store, removed an unactivated card and gave it to the man. Police said the man then told the store clerk that he had to return the card because it was meant for a gift for a relative who lives outside of the country and he had not realized the card could not be used outside of the U.S.
Police believe the suspects are driving a dark grey VW Passat.
