Authorities said a bear was spotted roaming in parts of Swatara Township on July 4.  A Lenker Manor resident reported seeing a black bear wandering through the neighborhood near Vista Terrace at Manor Terrace.

Police say the bear was not aggressive and was most likely looking for food.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission was notified and the bear wandered off on its own.

If residents see or encounter a bear in Swatara Township , police advise the public to:

  • Notify police immediately by calling (717) 564-2550 so they can monitor the area and reduce the risk to the surrounding residents.
  • Do not offer any food to the bear
  • Do not approach or antagonize the bear
