A fallen York County soldier’s legacy lives on in Spring Grove.  Tuesday, along the Codorus Creek, Cameron Stambaugh’s family, neighbors and public figures came out to dedicate the Route 116 bridge in his memory.  Stambaugh died in Afghanistan in 2012.  An improvised explosive device struck the vehicle he was riding in.  In his honor, State Representative Seth Grove introduced a House bill to designate the bridge as the Specialist Cameron Stambaugh Memorial Bridge.

Rep. Grove says, “Helps bring closure to the family, makes sure they know the community supported their loss and grieves with them.  Remember those who fall in the line of service to our country.”

The Bill was signed into law in May.

Cameron’s dad, Mitchell, says, “When his classmates cross the bridge, they can tell their kids, I went to school with him and his legacy can live on.”

Friend, Carlie Mussleman says, “Everyday I think of him, and now everyday I cross that I think of him again and I’m glad, I don’t want to forget him and he deserves it.”

For over 20 years, Cameron’s dad crossed the bridge to get to work at the Glatfelter paper mill.  His walk now holds new meaning.

Mitchell says, “I hope everybody realizes he was a hometown hero.  He did it not for me, you, but for everybody.”
