Smoke began billowing from the roof of a Harrisburg apartment building just before noon on Friday.
You could see it from a distance and our FOX43 sky-cam’s caught it as it happened.
Victoria Knauss says she was watching TV with her cat, Jake, when she noticed something wasn’t right.
“All the sudden… (sniff sniff)… I said what (sniff sniff) where’s the smell coming from? I walk in my kitchen and every thing’s… (sniff sniff) smokey! I opened up my back door and here are all these flames coming inside of the building and I’m like, fire!” says Knauss.
She quickly dialed 911, grabbed her cat, and got out of her apartment.
But, she didn’t realize how close she was to danger.
The fire started on the other side of her kitchen wall, where nobody was living.
“I gotta bad back, I just had surgery in May. It scared the hell outta me, now they don’t know what kind of damage I have because I’m right next door and I don’t know if I’ll be allowed to stay there or not. I just paid my rent for the month… so I’m broke,” says Knauss.
Our FOX43 sky cameras caught all the action as smoke poured from the roof and windows.
Harrisburg Fire Chief, Brian Enterline says nobody was injured, but Victoria is the only person who can’t go back home.
The Red Cross is helping her.
Her apartment sustained water damage as well as damage to the ceilings and walls.
The fire is still under investigation, but Victoria’s worried someone did this on purpose.
“If somebody did it intentionally that’s a shame. ‘Cause that’s a lot of lives they could have took,” says Knauss.
Chief Enterline wouldn’t comment on if the fire is being investigated as arson.
He says the cause may take days to determine.
