PennDOT says three overnight ramp closures are scheduled this week in the Eisenhower Interchange in Swatara Township, Dauphin County.

Weather permitting, construction work is scheduled tonight that will close the ramp from Interstate 283 to southbound Interstate 83 in the Eisenhower Interchange. The ramp closure is necessary so that construction crews can pave an initial layer of asphalt on the ramp. The ramp closure will start at around 9 p.m. and be reopened before 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15. Motorists will be detoured first by way of northbound I-283 to northbound I-83 in the Eisenhower Interchange, and then on to the interchange with Union Deposit Road in Lower Paxton Township, and then directed back on southbound I-83.

On Tuesday night, July 15, the ramp from northbound I-283 to northbound I-83 in the Eisenhower Interchange is scheduled to be closed. Traffic will be detoured by way of eastbound Route 322 to the PenHar interchange, and then back on westbound Route 322 to Eisenhower Boulevard and on to northbound I-83. Like the previous night, the ramp closure will take place between 9 p.m. and 6 o’clock the next morning.

And on Wednesday night, July 16, the ramp from northbound I-283 to eastbound Route 322 will be closed between 9 p.m. and 6 o’clock the next morning.Motorists will be detoured by way of northbound   I-83 to the Union Deposit interchange, then south on I-83 to the off-ramp (Exit 46B) for Eisenhower Boulevard and the ramp for eastbound Route 322.

This work is part of a major $5.6-million project that got underway in late April to repair and resurface I-283 between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the Eisenhower Interchange in Swatara and Lower Swatara townships. The project also includes overnight closures from time-to-time on the ramps that connect

I-283 to Route 283, Route 441, and Interstate 83 and Route 322 in the Eisenhower Interchange. PennDOT has contracted with Pennsy Supply, Inc. of Annville, Pennsylvania, to conduct the highway improvement project, which is scheduled to be finished by mid-May of 2015.

People can view the traffic patterns and traffic conditions on I-283 by way of a traffic cameras connected to the 511 Traveler Information System.
