Police in Harrisburg say it started as a home invasion and ended in gunfire. The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. at a home near South 18th and Chestnut Streets. Early Tuesday morning police canvassed the area and talked with neighbors.

“We’re dealing with a homicide. A black male is deceased at this time from a home invasion. He was involved in gunfire,” said Sgt. Gabriel Olivera with Harrisburg City Police. “We’re trying to see if there are any other witnesses.”

The victim has been identified as 30 year-old Shawn Gillis, of Harrisburg.

Olivera said there were other people in the home when it happened but no one else was hurt.

Police towed a darker colored Mercedes-Benz from a nearby street. “Right now it is being taken because it may be part of the scene. We are playing it safe and we will deal with that later on,” said Sgt. Olivera.

“We’re going to do anything we can to give justice to the victim and his family,” said Sgt. Olivera.
