Things are getting serious in California, as people there are dealing with one of the worst droughts in nearly four decades.
That’s why water regulators voted to approve fines for residents who waste water on lawns, landscaping, and car washing. The fines would be 500-hundred bucks a day for those who overuse water.
The state Water Quality Board put these measures in place after a report showed consumption throughout the state was actually up during the drought. The board calls it an historic vote, saying it spreads the burden of the drought beyond the farmers and agencies that are trying to protect wildlife.
As one member said, “This is our attempt to say, we’re all in this together.”
