By Chris Oberholt & DeAnn Smith, Missouri City, MO (KCTV) — Authorities detonated a homemade bomb found on a Missouri City homeowner’s front door steps. The Independence Bomb and Arson squad detonated the device, which was possibly filled with shrapnel or BB pellets, at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, a Clay County Sheriff’s Office spokesman told KCTV5. This was after a homeowner came home at 8:15 a.m. and discovered the bomb on his front stoop steps. The man lives in the 400 block of Main Street. His residence is across from River Park near the playground.
The Independence bomb squad’s robot grabbed the device and moved it down the street to a safer location where it was detonated, the sheriff’s office said. Some streets in the area were blocked off as a precaution. Only the homeowner was evacuated during the incident. No one was injured. A KCTV5 viewer who lives nearby said when the device was detonated the explosion shook his residence. Detectives said they have no reason to believe that homeowner was targeted. The incident remains under investigation.
