A Harrisburg man is behind bars charged with Criminal Attempt Homicide after firing a shot at police over the weekend. The incident began at about 1:16  am Saturday.  Police initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by Reginald Barton, 28, for a cancelled registration plate. When Barton pulled over in the 1400 block of Zarker Street, he jumped out of the vehicle and ran.

While running away Barton fired one shot from a handgun at a pursuing officer along the 1400 block of Market Street. A second officer arrived to assist and deployed a taser against Barton which brought the chase to a halt.

It was discovered that Barton was a fugitive from justice with a bench warrant for prior drug violations.  In addition to the homicide charge Barton was also charged with Recklessly Endangering, Aggravated Assault and other charges.   Following arraignment Barton was sent to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.
