PennDOT says preparatory work begins Wednesday, July 23 on a 5-mile section of Route 34 in Dickinson and South Middleton townships, Cumberland County.
The $2,066,153 contract was awarded on May 5 to Pennsy Supply, Inc. of Annville, Lebanon County, and includes tree trimming, roadway base repair, drainage improvements, removal of the top layer of asphalt, and bituminous resurfacing from the Cumberland and Adams county line through the villages of Goodyear and Hunters Run to the South Middleton Township and Mount Holly Springs Borough municipal line.

PennDOT advises motorists that starting July 23 through the fall they will encounter single-lane restrictions Monday through Friday during daylight hours as construction crews repair the highway in preparation for contract paving.

An average of nearly 5,680 vehicles travel on some sections of Route 34 every day.

Travelers are advised to be alert for this operation, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones, not only for their safety, but also for the safety of the road crews.

PennDOT expects work under this construction contract to be completed by the end of 2014.
